Public Swimming at Abbey Stadium
Public swimming at Abbey Stadium is a chance for everyone to enjoy the water in a safe and welcoming environment. Our 25m, six-lane competition pool is ideal for lane swimming, training and building technique, with a depth ranging from 1m to 2m. Alongside it, the 13m x 7m learner pool provides a gentler space that is perfect for children, beginners and families, with a consistent depth of 0.9m throughout. We offer two types of public swimming: lane swimming for those who want to focus on fitness, and general swimming sessions for families and more relaxed use.
To make sure sessions run smoothly and everyone can enjoy their swim, lane swimming is organised by speed and stroke, allowing you to choose the lane that suits you best. Swimmers are encouraged to be considerate of others, keep to the outside edge of their lane, and overtake carefully when needed. This ensures a relaxed but orderly experience for all abilities, from beginners to experienced swimmers. For family swims, our adult-to-child ratios are in place to keep little ones safe: in the main pool, one adult may accompany one child aged 0–4, or two children aged 5–7, while in the learner pool, one adult may supervise up to two children.
